Software I use, gadgets I love, and other things I recommend.

I get asked a lot about the things I use to build software, stay productive, or buy to fool myself into thinking I’m being productive when I’m really just procrastinating. Here’s a big list of all of my favorite stuff.

Workstation

  • 13” MacBook Air, M1 Max, 16GB RAM (2020)

Lightweight and powerful at the same time. On most tasks, it’s even faster than my work-sponsored 16” MacBook Pro without Apple Silicon.

  • Acer 32” External Monitor

Big enough for multiple panes of VS Code. Small enough to fit on my desk.

  • Lioncast LK20 Mechanical Keyboard

Never going back to standard keyboards. Just the right amount of clicky.

Development tools

  • Visual Studio Code

Has become my go-to over Vim for the amazing development features such as Dev Containers.

  • iTerm2 + Tmux

Allows for quick organization of terminals into panes and windows.

  • Postman

Great software for testing API requests.

Productivity

  • Raycast

Recently adopted as my main launcher. Previously used Alfred, but Raycast allows to do more things within the app (e.g., creating Notion pages).

  • Notion

Dropped Roam Research in favor of Notion, because it has more features at a lower price point. Also, it integrates with all my other tooling.

  • Readwise

My go-to tool for creating and reviewing highlights. Also, the recently launched Reader is a great curator for online content such as articles, videos, and tweets.
